The French photonics industry is well-known for its activity in defense, security, and space.
In terms of demand, beyond the aerospace sector, the French photonic market is organized around major international groups in energy, automotive, agrofood, luxury, construction and infrastructures, pharmaceutical or retail.
The country has about 6 important photonics clusters, with innovative companies and research institutes. Besides the big players as Thales, Safran, Essilor and Valeo, the French photonics sector consists of a big number of smaller players. 40% of the French photonics players are younger than 10 years old.
